Lucas Ford is a clinical psychologist originally from St. Louis, Missouri (USA) but has been residing in Australia since 2004. Lucas has worked with children, adolescents, and families in a variety of contexts for more than a decade. Lucas sees clients of all ages and presentations; he has a particular interest in treating anxiety, including Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), in both adults and children.
Lucas has a relaxed, down to earth approach to seeing clients and has experience and success in treating anxiety, OCD, depression, psychological difficulties accompanying health issues (e.g., chronic disease), trauma, work related stress, relationship issues, self-esteem issues, and substance misuse.
Lucas is a registered provider with WorkCover Queensland and WorkCover NSW. He has conducted research and co-published journal articles in the area of workplace rehabilitation. He has a particular interest in assisting workers to return to work (RTW) after psychiatric injury.
Lucas is also a registered provider of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA).
Lucas has previously conducted research and published on the relationship between mindfulness, self-compassion, and resilience in human service professionals and continues to have an ongoing interest in mindfulness and self-compassion based psychological interventions. Lucas is currently completing a PhD exploring the effectiveness of such interventions in the acute inpatient mental health setting, with young adults and adolescents. Lucas regularly utilises mindfulness and self-compassion based interventions with his clients.
His primary treatment frameworks are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
